Suicide Prevention Projects

‘A Life 2 Live 4’: Suicide Prevention

President McAleese recently launched this educational DVD which is aimed at support groups for people bereaved by suicide, Second Level Senior Cycle classes and Third Level groups where the issues of suicide and suicide bereavement are being addressed. The thrust of the programme demonstrates that there is help available and offers hope to anyone who may now, or at any time in the future, find themselves feeling down, depressed, suicidal or grieving the loss of a loved one through suicide. The educational booklet accompanying the DVD contains guidelines for teachers and facilitators and includes exercises to help students and group members to reflect on the material contained in the DVD. The educational booklet also contains worksheets exploring coping skills, healthy living and supportive actions which are designed to raise the student’s/group member’s awareness of positive options in relation to mental health.

Seasons for Growth Programme:

Seasons for Growth is a successful education programme for young people and adults which explores the effects of change, loss and grief. This programme which was developed in Australia recognises that change often hurts, can be confusing, frustrating or threatening. It also recognises that sometimes we need support in understanding and coping with the effects of change and loss. Seasons for Growth provides a safe, creative way to explore these issues. This programme provides young people and adults with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to understand and manage their individual experiences.
